Mr. Dexter Sylvester Burnett

Dexter "Dex" Burnett, born in Wisner, LA, on January 16, 1956, a cherished soul called to rest on April 7, 2024, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 68. He was known for his stern demeanor, balanced with a sharp sense of humor and a witty personality. Dex took immense pride in his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, cousin, and friend. Dex walked humbly through life, embodying the virtues of patience and gratitude. His stern presence was a testament to his steadfast spirit, while his sharp wit and humor reflected the joy of God's creation. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Dex embraced his family with a love that mirrored the unconditional love of the Creator. His passion for football, especially his support for the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints, was paralleled only by his zeal for witnessing the triumphs of his beloved grandchildren on the field of play. Dex rejoiced in the simple pleasures of life—attending his grandchildren's events, sharing moments with friends at the pasture, working with his hands, and watching old western movies. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Karlos C. Burnett Sr. and Archea' A. Burnett; daughters of the heart, Melanie Burnett, and Tanisha Burnett; grandchildren, Karlos "KJ" Burnett Jr., Jade Whitfield, Jazelle Williams; uncle, James Cooper, and close cousin Gayle Jackson. Dex now reunites in the Kingdom of Heaven with his treasured wife, Bertha Burnett, and is embraced by the open arms of his mother, Luella Burnett; father, John Burnett Jr; and brothers, John A. Burnett, Paul B. Burnett, Vencent Burnett. We welcome family, friends, and acquaintances to join in the memorial service to be held in remembrance of Dex at Signature Memorial Chapel, 9202 Jensen Drive, Houston, TX 77093, Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 6pm-9pm. The compassionate care of Richardson and Sims Funeral Home of Winnsboro, LA, is overseeing the preparations for Dex's sacred farewell. We invite all who knew and loved him to join in reflection of a life lived with purpose, humility, and a deep respect for all of God's creation. Funeral service to celebrate Dex’s life will be held at St. Paul #1 missionary Baptist Church, Hwy 562 East, Wisner LA, 71378, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11am.
