Mr. Orin Lee

Orin Lee, a man whose infectious spirit, generous heart, and love for family and food touched countless lives, passed away on August 11, 2025. Born on July 7, 1960, in Georgetown, Guyana, Orin's journey was one marked by dedication, entrepreneurship, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. He was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Olga. Orin began his education at St. Ambrose Primary School in Guyana. As a teenager, he moved to the United States, settling in Brooklyn, New York, where he proudly graduated from Tilden High School. It was in Brooklyn that Orin met Ellen, the love of his life. They married in 1987, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span decades. Orin's professional life was a testament to his strong work ethic and ambition. He started his career in the mailroom at Simpson Thacher and Bartlett Law Firm, diligently working his way up. His dedication led him to leadership roles at esteemed companies such as RR Donnelley, Brown and Wood, and IKON, where he made significant contributions. Demonstrating his commitment to lifelong learning, Orin earned his bachelor's degree in Finance from Jersey City State College. In 1989, Orin and Ellen moved their growing family to Jersey City, New Jersey, continuing to build a life filled with love and laughter. The family then relocated to Katy, Texas, in 2006, where Orin quickly charmed new friends with his vibrant personality. A lifelong passion for cooking culminated in 2011 when Orin realized his dream of opening Island Spice Bar and Grill. Through his restaurant, he shared his culinary talents and his love for food with the wider community. Orin will be fondly remembered for his charisma, his incredible generosity, and his deep devotion to his family. Orin was preceded in death by his mother, Dotridge Rohena "Dotsy" Timmerman, his father, James Lee, and his siblings Terry, Selina, and Anthony. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen, and his cherished children, Amanda, Amber, Tristian, and Tyler. He also leaves behind his siblings, Mark, Gillian, Yonette, Rawle, Clairmont, Kurt, Anastacia, Debra, Carol, and James, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
