Master Ermias Cartier "Ace" Atkins

Obituary Ermias Cartier Atkins transitioned to his eternal home on December 6, 2022 at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. Ermias, (known affectionately as Ace), was born to parents Jarvis and Marquita Atkins II on August 16, 2018. Ace was known to his family, teachers, and nurses as an intelligent, energetic, and fun-loving boy. His favorite activities were playing with his older siblings, having books read to him, learning sign language, and watching Little Einstein, Mickey Mouse or PJ Masks on his iPad. Ace also loved trains and his favorite sound to make was “Choo Choo.” The name Ermias means “God will rise.” His dad Jarvis named him this intentionally after receiving news his son would be born with a one ventricle heart and require immediate surgery and a pacemaker. In his first year of life, Ermias had more than a dozen surgical procedures and time and time again, our heart warrior fought through as God allowed us to witness miracle upon miracle. Four years later, on December 6, 2022, after having over a dozen procedures in a span of two months, including two twelve-hour surgeries a week a part, our heart warrior got his victory, a new heart and body on the other side. Earlier this year, Ace grabbed a baby Bible out his mother’s hands as she was packing up baby shower gifts. They went back and forth, Marquita would place the Bible in the gift bag, Ace would take it back out, Marquita put it in, Ace took it out. Finally, she released it to him, and he slept with the Bible all night long. As difficult as it is for us to imagine or comprehend, we release Ace into the arms of His heavenly father, as his soul has found eternal rest. “To be absent from the body is present with the Lord.” (II Corinthians 5:8) Ermias is survived by his loving parents, Jarvis and Marquita, his siblings, Janae Copeland, Mikayla Stewart, Jeremiah Atkins, Taylor Hardy, Destini-Michole Hardy and Giovanni Atkins. He also leaves behind his grandmothers; Cheryl Irving, Addrenna (Danta) Fontenett and Jarvis (Lashaunda) Atkins Sr.; great grandparents Mildred Theirry and Verna Richard; (Aunts) Courtney Williams, Jalisa (Majeur) Jean Charles, Ashley Henderson, (Uncle) Reginald Rashad Henderson II; (Godmother) Ieshia Webb, (Godfather) Prestin Johnson, (Godbrother) Kentrell Webb. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Reginald (Renee) Henderson.
